Thanks Kids for a Great Day!

What  can you do on a sunny day when you need to keep your mind on happy things?

Go on an adventure with Eli, Cara, Brady, and Allie of course!DSC_0028
We started our adventure by walking up the street to the library. Ah, yes. Why not brave the place where you are supposed to be quiet with your 4 children under 3? I must have been in an extremely sunny mood today to attempt this:)

The kids did a really good job though. Our children’s library is only about 1/4 mile up our street…it took us about 15 minutes to get there. I pushed the stroller and the triplets held hands, then let go of hands, then cried because no one was holding their hand, then ran to catch up, then whined because they were too far behind….

But we made it!

The kids didn’t know it, but I had packed fruit, chips, and milk. All we had to do was stop at the local pizza shop and pick up a turkey sub and we had a picnic! We waited a few minutes for our sub and I think the 5 patrons trying to eat their lunch were happy to see that we were “to go” customers.

We walked back down towards our house and the park. The park is only about 1/8 of a mile from our house! We sat at the new, big pavilion (or as Brady called it “The witch’s castle!) and had our lunch.

I should point out that this is the time of year when you will see my children in crocs (well, not exactly Croc brand, but the kind you get at Dollar General, Walmart, or Kmart!) almost every day. I think these shoes are some of the worst things to happen to fashion ever, but they are SO alluring easy to put on, take off, and clean that this momma thinks that Crocs are just right for us!

After lunch we all ran to the playground. It was our first time there this season!

Allie totally surprised me today! She headed for the playground as fast as she could. She climbed up the stairs and all she kept saying was “Upppp! Upppp!” You can almost see her saying “up!” in this picture!

And so it went…up the stairs, down the slide, up the stairs…

After about 10 minutes I noticed that Brady was avoiding the big twisty slide. He was trying to get Eli and Cara to come and play with him on everything else BUT that slide. Finally I asked him what was wrong and he said, “I’m scared of that big, turny slide!” I quickly decided to try and tease him into doing it…thank goodness it worked! Go Brady!

After dinner Matt had to go outside and water some new grass seed. The kids just love watching him out of the playroom window.

As tradition on the night before scans, I let the kids eat a big snack before bed. It will be 20+ hours before Brady can eat or drink anything, and that just breaks my heart. SO…I made ice cream sundaes for the kids.

Tomorrow morning we don’t have to be at the hospital until 9:45. I was able to call Brady’s PT today and see if we could squeeze in his session at 8:30. (thanks Linda:) This way, at least Brady will be preoccupied since I’m sure he will be hungry and cranky. So we will leave the house at 7:30, PT 8:30-9:15, arrive at Strong at 9:45, hopefully (prayerfully!) scans at 10:30. This means we will be home in the later afternoon.

In the scheme of the pediatric cancer world, facing a day of scans just to make sure things are okay, is nothing. There are so many families facing unimaginable circumstances involving their children. I’m doing my best to focus on how blessed we are to be going to the hospital tomorrow under these circumstances.

I’m hoping to hear from the oncologist tomorrow in the early evening. I have a MOPS meeting and I promise I will have Matt post results if we get them before I get home. Thanks for always standing by us:)
