We Have An Appointment

At 4:15 today we got the call we have been waiting for! Sloan called with both a consult appointment and a surgery date. The pit in my stomach hit an all new level as I wrote the dates down on my calendar. We will meet with the oncology team and the surgeon Dr. Laquaglia on Wednesday April 1st (also a meeting with a neurosurgeon either Wed or Thurs). Brady's surgery will be Monday April 6th. Our plan right now is to fly down Tues March 31st and hopefully get a room at the Ronald (we will find out about that next week). Wednesday will be a day of appointments and possibly one appointment on Thursday. Then we will fly back Thursday later in the day. We thought it will be worthwhile to be home Friday and Saturday. Then Sunday later in the day we will fly back and be there for surgery Monday. From that point we will take it day by day. Matt and I plan on being there while Brady is recovering in intensive care. After that, one of us will fly home for a few days and then we will switch. Whoever stays with Brady will have to stay in the hospital until the other person returns.

So there is the plan. I'm going to work on researching some flights tonight. There are a ton of details to work out...what to bring, what not to bring. Several of my online triplet mommy friends have told me that people don't use car seats when traveling by taxi in the city!!??! I'm not sure if that applies to rides to and from the airport as seems crazy! If that is the case we won't have to bring one. Of course we will have the stroller and everything Brady will need for 3 weeks or so.

Obviously there are many areas for prayer right now. My soul can find peace when I think of all of our friends and family faithfully lifting our names up to the Lord. Please continue to pray:
1. For Dr. Laquaglia the surgeon who will be performing this very serious surgery. He is the best there is, but we know who will be guiding his hands as he operates on our precious boy.

2. For Brady as he enjoys a few weeks at home and then a few scary weeks once we are in NYC. We continually pray for his complete healing. We continually pray for God to bring him comfort and security even when he hurts.

3. For Matt and I as we make plans to split our family. This situation saddens me so greatly...please pray for peace in this area.

4. For our parents, family, and friends who will be helping care of Eli, Cara, and Allie when we are away.

I also wanted to let you know that the Brady Bracelets are in! If you would like to sell some at your place of work, church, or community event, please email my brother Andy at

  1. praying for peace & strength for your family & for brady.........God Bless.

  2. Megan,
What a privilege it is to continue to pray for you... thank you for sharing your specific requests. I can imagine that you feel thankful that the appointments are set, but at the same time fearful about all it entails. My heart is with you...
    Steph D.

  3. Meg and Matt,
My heart sank when I read the blog. Yes, it is what you want but the fear of the unknown is scary. The door is closed and oh, I do wish I could see through it to let you know what is behind it. But each time you have come to the closed door and God has opened it, and his graces come shining out on Brady and you.
Your Prayer Warriors are ready to take on the next battle with strength and anticipation of winning. We will prevail in Brady's name.
I have my bracelet and wear it proudly. I will be connecting with business to sell them.
In Christ name, I raise up Brady and your family, the doctors, nurses and especially both of you for a safe trip to NYC.
    Deb R.

  4. Will be keeping all of you in my prayers. I can't imagine what a difficult decision it is to make to do this , knowing you will be apart from the family, but knowing it is what you need to heal Brady.
Will certainly pray for your hearts to be able to handle all of this.

  5. Matt and Megan,

I am so glad you finally heard from Sloan. I know the mighty hand of God is on this situation and all will be well. We will continue to pray and address the specific needs you have. I plead the precious blood of Jesus over the Williams family and know that he will give you all the strength, comfort and peace you need. Thank you both for sharing and showing that no matter what God is still on the throne and you continue to trust and lean upon him.

  6. An appointment is set, I know your stress level must be failry overwhelming by now. Please know that we are all praying for Brady and for Dr LQ at MSKCC, he is a remarkable man. When you get ther look for a little man called Dillan, he has been at Ronald house with his parents abd brother since,...well.,, about 5 years now. He is from Australia where doctors had no more treatment to help him so his parents raise funds and brought him to Dr's at MSKCC. AT that time the Drs in Australia gave Dillian 2 - 12 months and here he is going strong 5 years later. Now I have never had a child treated there, nor have I had to enduer the world of childhood cancer but I have researched and you are headed in the right direction. I know they can help and will help dear Brady. Thay are all very nice there, like a big family..I think RDH in NYC has 83 rooms and activities for the kids and parents to help get thru each day.
I will be following Brady and praying for all.
If you do get to meet Mr Dillian Hartung would you please give him a huge hug from me, I am in Nova Scotia and will never get to NY and I just love this kid, you will too. His Mom is very nice and will probably help you find your way around. Judt to note, food prices in and around the hospital is expensive, even regular groceries are costly.. I hope this just a little.
I live in Nova Scotia and If I could get there I would to offer to take care of the 3 others so you both can be with Brady, he will be ok, they are the best medically and mentally for both patient and parents. I just don't have funds to fly, if I could I would.
God getten tiger you will be chassing everyone soon enought.
You should someday write a book, if you had not insisted that they were wrong, I don't even like to thing of what might have been. Good for you, proactive for our childre,
Sorry to ramble, if you need to vent anyting feel free.
    Susan 190=876-8316 God bless

  7. Megan,

We will continue to pray for Brady and for all the specific prayer requests.

There is a lot that you are facing, but remember that He is always right there with you!!

You are all in our thoughts and prayers!

  8. Hooray! A Plan!
Scott and I left the other 3 kids home for 2.5 weeks, then he went home and I stayed with Sean for a total of about 3 weeks. No one remembers any of it. The kids will all be fine. FYI, after the first few days in ICU, he will be wanting Mommy or Daddy. If you can bring a helper if you both can't be there that would be good. I stayed nights and early mornings for rounds and then Scott relieved me to go take a shower and nap in the after noon. In the evening we tried to be there together. Soon he will be on the mend. By the way, I know Dylan and his mom Melissa well, they have been here to visit and will help you in any way that they can. God Bless, Love, Ellen 3 inter risk 9/03, 5.5 years later he is just fine thanks for Dr. L, Dr. Kushner and the team at Sloan.

  9. We're so happy for the plan:) "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord. Jer. 29:11-14.

  10. A scary but exciting time!! I'm glad you have the dates so you can make your plans. I'll be praying.

  11. Bring a car seat! Safer that way!
